Kathmandu: More than 100 general convention delegates of the Nepali Congress have jointly demanded that the party immediately call a special general convention to resolve internal disputes and set a new direction for the future.

At a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, the delegates issued a statement acknowledging mistakes made in the past and apologizing to the people. They stressed that the only way forward for the Congress is through a comprehensive reorganization that can be achieved via a special convention.

The statement was signed by several senior members, including former central member Gururaj Ghimire, former MP Janak Giri, and delegates Devraj Chalise, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Taranath Dahal, Krishna Rijal, Binod Khanal, Tekraj Poudel, Ujjwal Baral, Rampaltan Shah, Rudra Kandadwa, Kumar Luitel, among others.

Citing Article 17, Clause 2 of the party statute, the delegates argued that a special general convention has become indispensable to make the Congress timely, popular, effective, and strong, while also restoring public trust. They urged all members and affiliated organizations to unite behind this demand as the only way to overcome the current crisis facing the party.
